Two suspected kidnappers were on Tuesday arrested in Ile-Ife, Osun State, after a gun duel, the state’s Police Command has said.
The suspects were said to have been apprehended after kidnapping a man at a Fulani settlement in the town.
In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Yemisi Opalola, the police said a complaint was lodged at about 11:30am at ‘C’ Division, Aganhun, that some suspected kidnappers invaded the Fulani settlement at Erefe Area, Ondo Road, around 12:15am and kidnapped one Muhammed Gembu.
Opalola said: “Immediately the police received the report, detectives swung into action and arrested two suspects, after a gun duel, with one of them fatally wounded and another escaping.
“The kidnapped victim was however, rescued unhurt with the assistance of Fulani vigilante in the community.”
She disclosed that the arrested suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.
The statement said the state’s Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode, urged members of the public to cooperate with the command while giving timely information that will assist in eradicating crime.
