The candidate of the People’s Democratic Party in Edo State gubernatorial election, Godwin Obaseki, has been declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Akpofure Rim-Rukeh, said the All Progressives Congress candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, polled 223,619 votes, while Obaseki got 307,955 votes.
The election, which was contested by 17 political parties, was a two-way race between APC and PDP.
Recall that Obaseki was elected as the governor in 2016 on APC’s platform but defected to the PDP after being denied the ticket owing to intra-party issues.
