The Christ’s School Ado-Ekiti Alumni Association (1995-2001 set) on Friday instituted a scholarship scheme targeted at spurring students of the school to excel in their studies.
The alumni set Chairman, Temidayo Akeredolu, said the scholarship award, named after the principal of their set, Kehinde Ojo, would be presented to the best student in the Junior Secondary School Certificate Examination yearly.
Akeredodu spoke in Ado-Ekiti during the 20th anniversary reunion of the set, which witnessed the presentation of the maiden scholarship for the 2020/21 session to Progress Omilola, the best student in the JSS 3 examination, a power generating set to the school and honours for tutors of the set.
He said, ” The yearly scholarship award amount of N100,000 is to cover all expenses, including tuition, uniform, textbooks and notebooks only for the period of Senior Secondary School Class 1.
“It is a means of encouraging academic excellence among students of the prestigious Christ’s School, Ado- Ekiti, and creating a positive atmosphere of healthy academic competition.
“Naming the award after Ojo, who was the principal at our admission and graduation from the school, is to express our sincere appreciation to Mr Kehinde Ojo for providing us with the best education and guardianship that have now shaped our lives and focus.”
Omilola, who thanked the alumni and the former principal for the gesture, said, “This scholarship is an inspiration. It will inspire me to do more.”
Earlier, the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Mr Tope Akerele, appreciated members for their time, money and talents in making the event achievable.
According to him, “We have gained more than education from Christ’s School. The school has afforded us the opportunity to build confidence, dignity, discipline and friendship. Hence, we are here to give a token as appreciation to the school that has done so much for us.”
