Staff and students of the Department of Theatre and Media Arts (TMA), of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), on Thursday, April 3, lighted up the Oye-Ekiti campus of the University with an exciting annual event tagged: “2025 Theatre Carnival”. They were kitted in colourful and beautiful costumes which represent icons of the theatrical performances they would present starting from Monday, April 7 through Thursday, April 17th 2025, at the playhouse of the department in Phase Two.
The beautiful carnival procession they lined up consisted of iconic pageants representative of their forthcoming play performances which include Kola Ogunmola ‘s impressionist and moralist “Palmwine Drinkard”,  Rotimi Babatunde’s stage adaptation of Lola Shoneyin’s highly instructive and feminist novel, “Secrets of Baba Segi’s Wives”, Yeside Dosunmu’s thrilling yet educative “Alajota”, Ahmed Yerima’s intensely metaphoric “Owiwi”, Ola Rotimi ‘s blunt yet entertaining “Kurunmi”, Duro Ladipo ‘s magical “Oba Koso”, Ray Emeana ‘s culturally rich “Ebubedike,” Femi Osofisan’s satiric “Twingle Twangle”, Lekan Balogun’s celebrative “Oya”, Akinwunmi lshola’ s historical and highly expository “Madam Tinubu”.
Each of the playtexts, scheduled for a two-week long festival of theatrical performances, are written by great playwrights, some of whom are world renowned drama authorities. The performances promise to be thrilling, socially engaging, politically and morally instructive, educationally enriching and culturally celebrative.
The excited students danced with great joy in a rich display of a mastery of the arts they have passion for, and are being tutored by their dutiful and friendly lecturers who joined them in the collaborative spirit of carnival performance. Thrilled members of the University community responded naturally with cheers, smiles and awesome joy having been drawn into a world of culturally rich entertainment offered on a platter of gold to them.
