Kingmakers in Igburowo town, Odigbo Local Government area of Ondo State, on Wednesday presented Prince Nelson Gbadega Akintolayo as the new Akamuja-elect to the people of the community.
The brief ceremony, held at the centre of the community, was witnessed by representatives and officials of Odigbo Local Government, men of the Department of State Services (DSS), officers from Ore Area Command of the Nigeria Police, officials from the Ondo State Security Corps code named Amotekun, local hunters, as well as indigenes of the town.
The position became vacant following the deposition of Mr Pius Akinfesola Adewola by the Ondo State Government after been removed by the people of the community in 2012.
Earlier, two princes from the Faduwasi ruling house were presented to the priest but one was said to have withdrawn from the race few minutes before the ‘Ifa” consultation.
Presenting the new Akamuja-elect to the kingmakers on behalf of the ruling house, Prince Adewotire Adesuyan said, “After due consultations and cross-examinations, the Faduwasi ruling house chose Prince Nelson Gbadega Akintolayo as the only candidate for the position of Akamuja of Igburowo. I hereby present him to the kingmakers.”
The whole environment immediately went agog as the shouting of “Abaiye oo” rented the air amidst dancing by members of the ruling house, youths and women of the community.
The name was later announced to all and sundry who had gathered to witness the event by High Chief Joseph Akinyinminu.
Shortly before the confirmation, the priest had asked questions several times if there was anyone or group who opposed the nomination of the new king-elect.
Prayers were offered for the wellbeing of the town, Ondo State and Nigeria as a whole in several traditional spots within the town.
Nelson Gbadega Akintolayo, a Health Educator by profession retired as a Community Health Worker (CHEW) from the service of Ondo State Government in 2020.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Education from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, and another certificate from Pharmacy Technician College of Health Technology, Akure.
Born on the 13th of April, 1960, he is married with wife and children.
