As part of its commitment to the welfare of Ekiti State residents, the state’s chapter of the Lions Club International in partnership with the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ekiti State Council, will on Thursday sponsor free eye test for students of the Special School for the Blind in Ikere-Ekiti.
Also sponsoring the outreach is the Nigerian Optometric Association ( NOA), Ekiti State Chapter.
The exercise is designed to commemorate this year’s World Sight Day.
According to a statement by Ekiti State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Rotimi Ojomoyela, signed by the Secretary, Kayode Babatuyi, the exercise will take place within the school premises.
The statement said the outreach is “aimed at identifying students with partial sight problem that could be rectified”.
It also disclosed that the Lions Club has promised to finance the surgery of any student with better chances of regaining sight.
“Similarly, as part of activities marking the day, the leadership of Lions Club and NUJ will feature on a special programme on BSES and Progress FM, Ado-Ekiti, at different times,” the statement added.
