FESSU counsels pupils on career, moral values

A former National President, Federation of Ekiti State Student Union (FESSU), Mr Ayorinde Alegbeleye, has admonished pupils of primary schools in the state to focus on their studies and refrain from acts capable of derailing them from achieving theirgl ambition.

The students’ union leader spoke in Ado-Ekiti at the weekend during a one-day enlightenment and sensitization programme on career and moral values for students and pupils of primary schools in Ado-Ekiti

In his address to flag off the ceremony held at the premises of State Universal Primary Education Board (SUBEB ) in Ado-Ekiti, Alegbeleye said the maiden edition was designed towards according recognition to children as future leaders and to revive the dying doctrine of civics in schools.

He said the programme was also organized in order to re-awake and recreate the mindset of primary schools children to enable them think positively and act in line with the accepted norms and values prevalent in the society so as to prepare them for future leadership challenges.

The erswhile union leader also explained that the programme was geared towards widening the horizon of the participants in to develop their capacity and equip them with adequate knowledge, which could assist them to choose appropriate future careers.

He expressed optimism that at the end of the programmes, students would be equipped with the right attitude that would also guide them on the need to shun evil associations.

He lauded the Ekiti State Government over various initiative methods in developing education in the state, particularly fight against examination malpractices and other social vices.

In a papers delivered at the occasion by the present National President of Ekiti State Students Union, Mr. Charles Awolola, he stressed the need for pupils to make effective use of their talents in order to make valuable contributions to communal, state and national development.

He described pupils as very vital in the society, noting that any society wishing to bequeath future legacy to them must ensure that adequate arrangement are made to develop their capacity.

Awolola admonished them to be law abiding and always act within the dictate of the national pledge, part of which says “to be faithful, loyal and honest”.

The programme, which also featured paper presentations by various scholars, witnessed presentation of gifts and writing materials to pupils.

In attendance were teachers from various primary schools in Ado-Ekiti, parents and  representative of SUBEB, among others.
