The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), Inspectors Sale James and Monday Uchiola, alongside their civilian accomplice, Okechuckwu Ogbonna, for alleged involvement in extortion and intimidation.
The arrest was contained in a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Adamu Mohammed.
The statement also contained the ban of FSARS and other tactical units of the Nigeria Police from routine patrol and mounting checkpoints.
Mba said the suspects were arrested ”for acts of professional misconduct including extortion and intimidation of innocent citizens”.
The police spokesman disclosed that the operational vehicle used by the officers and their accomplice had also been impounded, adding that disciplinary procedure has already commenced against them.
Meanwhile, the campaign against FSARS and other related units have been trending on social media with #EndSARS slogan after a video surfaced online showing a young man allegedly killed by SARS operatives who later escaped with his Lexus SUV.
The incident reportedly happened in Delta State and has prompted Nigerians to flood the internet with stories and videos of similar occurrences.
