Elo High School, Ayetoro Ekiti marks 40th Anniversary

Stakeholders in the education sector have been charged to meaningfully contribute their quota and justify government’s investment in revamping the education sector nationwide.

 

This was part of the decisions of educationists and entrepreneurs at the 40th Anniversary of Elo High School, Ayetoro Ekiti, which held at the school premise recently.

The President of the Old Students’ Association, Chief Sola Afolabi, who spoke with newsmen shortly after the ceremony explained that government at all levels need to be proactive to restore the standard of education in Nigeria.

He said the government must strife to prioritize necessary requisites in terms of modern day equipment and laboratory technology in the sector to make education viable nationwide.

He pledged the association’s commitment to making concerted efforts in giving back to the alma mater through infrastructural facilities and teaching equipment to complement government’s efforts while improving falling standard of education in the school.

Also speaking at the forum, a Norway based entrepreneur, Dr Dapo Oke, advocated skills acquisition as core of national education policy, stressing that such would be the only way to solve problems of unemployment considering the army of unemployed graduates.

Oke explained that entrepreneur in education helps students develop their potentials, skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to achieve the goals they set out for themselves later in life.

He called on political class to prioritise education and increase budgetary allocations to the sector in order to bring back the lost glory in the system.

Distinguished old students of the school who were conferred with Awards of Excellence in public sector included former Chairman of the Ekiti State House of Assembly committee on Finance and Appropriation, Jeje Samuel Abiola, Director of Commercial Services of the Broadcasting Service of Ekiti state, Tola Famuyiwa, Special Assistant on Political Matters to the Governor of Ekiti State, Garba Arogundade, among others.

The occasion which witnessed merit award presentation to eminent personalities and distinguished old students of the school also had in attendance dignitaries from across the country.
