Ekiti monarch’s ‘supporters’ detained over alleged killing of okada rider

The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested and detained three persons whose identities are yet to be disclosed over alleged killing of a motorcyclist in Ikere Ekiti recently.

The detainees were said to be loyalists of a prominent monarch in the state.

Sources disclosed that the suspects allegedly shot a commercial motorbike operator during a traditional festival organised by a monarch in the town.

Following the alarm raised by the people, the men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) stormed the town and rounded up the suspects before they were whisked away to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the police headquarters in Ado Ekiti.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti Command, DSP Caleb Ikechukwu, who confirmed the arrest said the three persons are being kept at the CID section to allow for further investigations.

When asked the number of suspects arrested over the case in general, Ikechukwu said only three are in custody at the time, though there could be more arrests as investigation continues.

“When issue like this happens, there is no way there won’t be arrest of suspects. And that I can confirm had been done.

“But as we speak, only three persons are in our custody. They’re being kept in the custody so that we can investigate their complicity in the commission of the crime.

“The second leg of the crime will be to charge them to court and the outcome will be determined by the judges. Ours is to present our evidence at this level,” he said.
