For attempting to defraud one Benson Aniogo of $50,000 after posing as an aide to the Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Gambari, the Department of State Services has arrested a suspect, Mohammed Prince Momoh.
Momoh was said to have informed Aniogu he could help him secure an appointment as a Special Adviser to the President on Oil and Gas.
While parading the suspect at the DSS National Headquarters, Abuja, the Services’ spokesman, Dr Peter Afunanya, said investigations revealed that the Kogi State indigene and his group never acted on behalf of or for the Chief of Staff.
Afunanya disclosed that the suspect had approached Aniogo, from Bayelsa State, and claimed to be a security aide attached to Gambari. He also claimed that $25, 000 would be for the Chief of Staff while the remaining would be shared to the ‘boys’ who would help secure the appointment.
He had gone on to visit Aniogo at home and was arrested after the latter suspected he was a fraudster and alerted the authorities.
The DSS spokesman revealed that Momoh worked briefly some time ago as an aide to someone in the Presidential Villa and had some knowledge of the environment.
Momoh, who said he is married with two children, admitted to the crime, adding that he worked in the Villa between 2013 and 2014.
