A veterinary surgeon, Omigbiyegbe Oladapo, was on Wednesday dragged before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun State over an alleged N119,000 dog food fraud.
Oladapo, 37, was charged with two counts of fraud.
The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence in March, in Lagere, Ile-Ife, when he fraudulently obtained the sum of N119,000 from one Awotunbo Sunday to buy dog food but defaulted.
The accused was said to have converted the money to his own use, contravening the provisions of sections 383, 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
When the charges were read, the defendant pleaded not guilty.
Defence Counsel, Oluwatoyin Lawal-Olatunji, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms, promising that he would not jump bail and would produce responsible sureties.
Magistrate Abosede Sarumi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety who must reside within the court jurisdiction, have a landed property and whose address must be verified by the prosecutor.
The surety would also present a three-year tax clearance certificate with three recent passport photographs.
The case has been adjourned until May 15 for hearing.
