The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned African countries to prepare for the worst as cases of coronavirus increase in the continent.
WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, on Wednesday said Africa needs to wake up as official numbers of COVID-19 cases do not likely reflect the full picture.
“Till date more than 200,000 people have been and more than 8,000 killed with Africa as the least affected.
“Africa should wake up. Probably, we have undetected cases or unreported cases.
“In other countries, we have seen how the virus actually accelerates after a certain tipping point, so the best advice for Africa is to prepare for the worst and prepare today
“WHO’s recommendation is actually that mass gatherings should be avoided.”
Nigeria had, on Wednesday, placed travel ban on 13 high risk countries to curb the spread of the pandemic as the country announced five new cases in Lagos and Ekiti.
