COVID-19: Oyo opens schools, state secretariat, worship centres

Following different measures put in place to curb the spread of coronavirus, the Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force has relaxed the curfew imposed on the state and ordered resumption of classes for selected levels.

The decision was made public after a meeting presided by the Task Force chairman, Governor Seyi Makinde.

Makinde’s spokesman, Taiwo Adisa, announced the decisions in a statement on Monday night.

Adisa said Primary Six, JSS3 and SS3 students are to resume on Monday, June 29, while all categories of workers at the state secretariat will resume work from June 22.

The decision, according to the statement, is to ensure the selected students are well-prepared for public examinations ahead.

Furthermore, schools are to provide hand wash points with the support of their Parents/Teachers Associations (PTA, while all students are to compulsorily wear face masks.

However, this has not affected tertiary institutions for now as the Task Force would review their situation and determine their readiness.

The government also permitted the opening of mosques and churches to operate at 25 percent capacity as all worshipers must wear face masks, while the situation will be reviewed within the first two weeks.

The statement further said night clubs remain shut, public gatherings have been limited to 25 persons and curfew would now run from 10pm to 4am.
