COVID-19: Ex-Ekiti FIDA boss calls for improved healthcare system

Former Chairperson of International Federation of Female Lawyers (FIDA) in Ekiti State and Co-Founder of Emeraldscape Environmental Development, Mrs Adefunke Anoma, has called on the Nigerian government to work on the improvement of healthcare system going by the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic.

Mrs Anoma said this during a telephone interview with our correspondent on the outbreak of coronavirus which is currently ravaging the whole world.

According to her,” Sadly, it takes the Covid-19 pandemic to make us all see the importance of well-resourced healthcare system and institutions with vast capabilities to gulp health shocks of the magnitude of coronavirus pandemic.

”The situation has sent us all back to the basics, getting our priorities right as people, family, nation and occupants of mother earth as a whole.”

The former FIDA boss outlined various steps that have been taken so far by the organization to help curtail the spread of coronavirus in Ekiti state.

She said the organization has assisted the state government in the distribution of palliatives and also reached out to private individuals who are in need of financial assistance during the current lockdown.

She added that Emeraldscape has used its radio program tagged “You and Your Environment” to sensitise people on the pandemic.

Mrs Adefunke Anoma, on behalf of her newly established organization ‘Emeralscape’, commended the effort of the state government under the leadership of Dr. Kayode Fayemi in involving Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in the distribution of palliatives to vulnerable/indigents persons in Ekiti State.

She stressed that the action showed sincerity of purpose of the exercise as CSOs distributed without recourse to political affiliation of the beneficiaries.

Speaking on the aims and objectives of her organisation, she said Emeraldscape is a non-governmental organisation that is concerned with addressing global environmental issues and degradation, such as climate change and global warming, while providing advocacy on conscious cultural attitudinal change towards the environment in relation to air pollution, flooding, wastes management, research into clean energy generation, forestation, among others.

She said the main aims and objectives of the organization are to improve on the behavioural pattern of people towards the environment and to discover talents and skills geared towards generating cleaner energy.
