…and why President Tinubu Must Watch her Video
By Wole Balogun
Youth Corps Member, Miss. Ushie Uguamaye, aka ‘Raye’, on Saturday, made the day of millons of Nigerian youth, especially of the middle class and more importantly, the masses, when she boldly posted a video communicating her frustration about the rising cost of living in Nigeria. She was ‘raw,’ blunt and direct, hiding none of her true feelings (and indeed, true feelings of millons of Nigerian youth and masses) over the unbearable condition of living that we ordinary Nigerians are currently subjected to, courtesy of the sudden and tactless removal of the fuel subsidy by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Sadly, some Nigerians, for selfish and pretentious reasons, have been castigating her, calling her names, and spewing verbal invectives on her. Some said she lacks proper home training, others said she ought not to insult the President and so on. But l ask, when we are angry, do we utter words that are comforting? The young lady is angry, and greatly disillusioned. She eventually broke down in tears while expressing her frustration about how condition of living, especially for the ordinary Nigerians, is becoming terribly unbearable. That lady deserves empathy not condemnation.
Imagine, you have a young daughter like her, and she speaks out of frustration to you at home, criticizing your faulty handling of the affairs at home and pointing out that your ways are snuffing life out of the members of the family…wouldn’t you see reasons with her and amend your ways, at least as a caring and loving father?
- This is why Mr. President sir, you MUST watch that lady’s video if you haven’t watched it. Do not allow your aides or others around you, to deceive you with wrong interpretations about the frustration relayed by Raye in that video. Aides and associates around a powerful man like you have the tendency to be sycophantic over matters like this. Watch the video yourself and feel Raye’s frustration which represents the frustration of every young Nigerians currently passing through the hard times your policy has foisted on them. I am sure you would also be moved to tears when you do. And I am sure, you would rather think of how to cushion the effect of this hardship.
Ignore the poor lady’s choice of words, they were merely coming out of a frustrates mind. But listen to her genuine call for humane leadership, that would make life bearable and hopeful for millions of Nigerians Youths and the masses. Honestly, this is my One Kobo advice dear President Tinubu.
