The Independent National Electoral Commission on Friday issued a Certificate of Return to the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Douye Diri.
INEC had earlier declared Diri as the winner of the November 16 governorship election held in Bayelsa State.
Diri and his deputy arrived the electoral’s body headquarters in Abuja few minutes after the declaration to receive the Certificate of Return.
This is coming barely 24 hours after the Supreme Court sacked the governor-elect of the Bayelsa State, David Lyon, and his Deputy, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremieoyo.
Lyon was sacked for presenting a running mate with a fake certificate in the said election.
The Apex Court consequently also ordered a fresh certificate be issued to the governorship candidate with the highest votes cast and wide geographical spread in the governorship election held on November 16, 2020.
