Agbeleoba: FUOYE VC Deserves Apology from the Ekiti State NUJ Chairman
By Tolu Adegun, Independent observer
With the current shocking revelation about the real reason behind the arrest of the embattled full-time lecturer of the department of English Ekiti State University, Dr. Oyeyemi Agbeleoba who also surprisingly doubles as the Managing Director of Our Peaople’s 104.1 FM (a position that cannot be on part-time), courtesy demands that the Ekiti State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists NUJ, Mr. Kayode Babatuyi should be professional enough to apologize to the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University, Oye-Ekiti Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina for false accusation, malicious misrepresentation and criminal defamation.
Mr. Babatuyi had on 12th February, 2025 misused his position as the Ekiti State NUJ Chairman by hurriedly calling a press conference and misleading the public on the arrest of Dr. Agbeleoba – the lecturer cum MD (double full time jobs); by informing the public that the arrest was carried out by Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina in order to silence Dr. Agbeleoba who the NUJ Chairman claimed has been fighting the course of his elder sister Engr. Folasade Adebayo that alleged the Vice-Chancellor of harassment without substantive proof. All these campaign of calumny, aspersion and obloquy and traducement are just to bring the Vice-chancellor to opprobrium, ridicule and disgrace for reasons best known to My. Kayode Babatuyi, the NUJ Ekiti State Chairman.
With the truth revealed, arraignment of Dr. Agbeleoba completed and real trial to commence on 29th April, 2025 on the two criminal count charge of impersonation and cyber-bullying levelled against Dr. Opeyemi Agbeleoba, one will expect Mr. Kayode Babatuyi to humbly reach out to the Vice-chancellor and apologize for lying against him and also call another press conference to apologise to all the state chapters of the NUJ and the entire country for false accusation and malicious misrepresentation against a public servant. Furthermore, Mr. Babatuyi should take the most honourable step of resigning for unprofessional, unethical conduct and for misleading the Ekiti State chapter of the NUJ.
It will be recalled that on the fateful day of the arrest of Agbeleoba, Mr. Babatuyi reached out to the Vice-Chancellor to confirm if he was responsible for the arrest, the Vice-Chancellor expressly said he was not responsible for it, despite this clarification from the Vice-Chancellor, the NUJ chairman threatened to face the Vice-Chancellor head on and fight him to stand still with the tool in his hand – the NUJ, he lived up to his promise by engaging all media platforms available to falsely accuse the VC and FUOYE management. Now that the truth is revealed, the Ekiti State NUJ Chairman is called upon to honourably resign and handover to a more professional personnel to ply the boat of Ekiti State NUJ. Since he has obviously failed in his duty as a state Chairman of the NUJ by misleading the Union, misinforming the public, thereby creating public nuisance through campaign of calumny, malicious, misrepresentation, obloquy and distortion of facts.
Thanks
