Cameroonian legend and one of Africa’s greatest all-time footballer, Samuel Eto’o, has retired from football.
The former Barcelona, Chelsea and Inter Milan forward made the announcement via his official Instagram page on Friday.
Eto’o wrote: “The end. Towards a new challenge.
“Thank you all, big love.”
Considered one of the greatest in the game, he played 22 years in his senior career and 5 years in the junior category.
He represented his country at four World Cups, netting 56 goals in 118 appearances.
He became Cameroon’s all-time scorer, the Africa Cup of Nations’ all-time top scorer and a four-time African Player of the Year, a record shared with former Manchester City star, Yaya Toure.
Added to that, he also has an Olympic gold medal in his bulging trophy cabinet.
After blazing a trail at Mallorca, Eto’o earned a dream switch to the Nou Camp in 2004 where he lifted two Champions League, four La Liga titles, two Supercopa de Espana trophies and a Copa del Rey.
During a five-year spell with the Catalan giants, his scoring record was exceptional, netting 108 times in 144 outings.
