Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed all students in public and private schools in the school to stay at home from Tuesday, October 20, 2020, citing the rising tension with the #EndSARS protests.
According to a statement on Monday by the state’s Head of Public Affairs, Ministry of Education, Kayode Abayomi, Governor Sanwo-Olu approved the closure with immediate effect, saying “the safety of the students, parents and all staff working in schools is paramount at this critical period.”
Commissioner for Education, Folasade Adefisayo was quoted as saying that parents should keep an eye on their wards and not allow them to be used as tools in the hands of those who might want to hijack the #EndSARS protests.
The commissioner also advised schools to utilize other means of distance teaching and learning such as radio, television, and online media as they did during the recent COVID-19 lockdown. She further added that “a new date of resumption for all classes will be announced as soon as possible.”
