The senator representing Kogi West at the upper chamber of the National Assembly, Dino Melaye, has headed to the Appeal Court after the Kogi State National Assembly/State Assembly Election Tribunal quashed his victory at the February 2019 poll.
The senator who contested on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was declared the winner of the poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Consequently, the three-man panel led by Justice A. O. Chijioke in a unanimous judgment on Friday accepted Adeyemi’s grounds and ordered a fresh election.
Melaye, however, insisted that he is unperturbed by the tribunal’s judgment and declared that he will appeal.
Elected to the House of Representatives to represent Kabba/Ijumu Federal Constituency, the 45-year-old lawmaker became a senator in 2015 before his re-election in February.
He declared his intention to contest during the November 16 gubernatorial election in Kogi if choosen as PDP’s flagbearer.
