Ekiti State Government has announced four new cases of COVID-19 as three males and a female tested positive for the virus.
The infected persons were said to have sneaked into the state from Lagos, Katsina and Oyo states during the lockdown.
This was made known by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Mojisola Yaya-Kolade, on Friday while giving update on the efforts of the COVID-19 Task Force to curtail the spread of the pandemic in the state.
She said, ”We have four new cases now. One of the cases is an old man that has been isolated in one of our tertiary health institutions for a while. He is an elderly person who is in a critical condition.
“Others include a 35-year-old female from Katsina and 32-year-old male from Ibadan while the third one is a 38-year-old male from Lagos who all sneaked into Ekiti during the lockdown.”
The health commissioner however said there was no community spread because the cases came from outside the state.
She urged residents to alert authorities when new people come into town while pleading with travellers to stay off Ekiti in the meantime as treatment of patients from other states would constitute financial burden to the state.
Yaya-Kolade stated that the government has trained a total of 80 civil servants on how to test people using infrared thermometer, adding that 234 blood samples had also been taken and tested since the outbreak of the disease.
The commissioner further disclosed that Ekiti has set up a molecular laboratory situated within the premises of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, which will be launched soon.
