Lesotho has become the last African country to record the novel COVID-19 as one person tested positive to the virus on Wednesday.
The country’s health ministry said it conducted 81 tests on travellers from South Africa and Saudi Arabia, out of which one tested positive, while 301 other tests are being awaited.
The announcement was made by the ministry’s Director General, Dr Nyane Letsie.
The index case, a Lesotho citizen, was studying in Saudi Arabia.
Lesotho’s Prime Minister, Thomas Thabane, announced a lockdown on March 29 to protect the country from a potential spread from South Africa, the African country with the highest number of coronavirus cases.
The lockdown was however eased on May 6 to allow non-essential services and enterprises and temporary opening of shops.
As at 3:32 GMT on Thursday, South Africa and Egypt have the highest number of cases with 12, 074 and 10, 431 cases respectively.
