The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Ekiti State chapter, has donated palliatives to over 200 women affected by Gender-Based Violence to cushion the effects of COVID-19 lockdown in the state.
The distribution took place at the Afe Babalola Bar Centre, State High Court, Ado-Ekiti, on Monday.
According to the Vice Chairperson of FIDA, Mrs Titi Ogunsina, the palliatives were given to the recipients by the Ekiti State First Lady, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, to support victims and survivors who registered with FIDA.
She said the donations became necessary to the GBV victims since some of them were either unemployed or lived as single mothers due to abuses suffered at the hands of their husbands.
The Vice Chairperson said the primary aim of FIDA is to protect the rights of women and children, adding that despite the economy, FIDA remembered them and wished they survive the present lockdown.
Mrs Ogunsina used the medium to appreciate Erelu Fayemi for coming to the rescue of recipients by providing palliatives through FIDA.
In the same vein, the Secretary of the Association, Mrs Blessing Ajileye, said the distribution cut across the sixteen local governments of the state.
She therefore advised the women to engage in small scale farming, such as planting of vegetable and corn beside their abodes during the current raining season.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Abisola Ayodele, appreciated the efforts of FIDA for remembering them at such critical period so as to ease their suffering and make life better.
According to her, she had been living alone with three children for over six years after her husband sent them packing, but efforts by FIDA had made her husband responsible for feeding her children with his token.
