Police in Delta State have foiled a robbery attempt in Asaba, the state capital, recovering a fabricated AK-47 rifle and ammunition.
A statement by the spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe, on Tuesday said the command received a distress call from Hausa Market area of the capital about some suspicious-looking persons, prompting the deployment of CP-Decoy Squad.
The statement said the suspects took to their heels immediately police operative arrived, abandoning a defaced tricycle.
“Upon a thorough search of the tricycle, a fabricated AK 47 rifle, twelve (12) rounds of 9mm live ammunition and twenty-three (23) live cartridges all concealed in black polythene bag and hidden beneath the rear passenger’s seat were recovered.
“Effort is been intensified in collaboration with local vigilantes to arrest the fleeing suspects,” the statement added.
While lauding efforts of residents in giving the police useful information about criminal activities, the Commissioner of Police, Ari Muhammed Ali, urged them to continue the gesture, promising that informants’ identities would be “treated with utmost confidentiality”.
