The Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over an alleged N80 million fraud.
The arrest is coming after the commission said it invited the AGF but he refused to show up to defend himself.
Operatives of the anti-graft agency apprehended Idris on Monday following the allegation that he diverted the amount “through bogus consultancies and other illegal activities using proxies, family members and close associates”.
The funds were said to be laundered through real estate investments in Kano and Abuja.
Ahmed was appointed on June 25, 2015, by President Muhammadu Buhari after Jonah Ogunniyi Otunla was sacked for misappropriating N2.5 billion.
Idris was re-appointed in 2019.
