Six persons at Karfi village in Takai Local Government area of Kano State have been killed by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers following the abduction of the village head, Abdulyahyah Ilo.
Takai LGA in Kano south is about 80 kilometres from Kano metropolis, and it shares border with several towns of Jigawa state.
Reports said the daredevils invaded the village on three motorcycle from Bauchi State through Ringim forest in Jigawa before kidnapping the village head.
Villagers were said to have mobilised vigilante groups and youths to rescue Ilo but the gunmen turned back and opened fire on them, killing six out of nine persons shot.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the incident, adding that a team of operatives has been dispatched to the area to rescue the village head and arrest the gunmen.
