A housewife, Hadiza Ahmed, has been ordered to sweep the Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court premises for five days for beating up her neighbour.
Chief Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel gave the verdict on Thursday following a guilty plea by the accused person.
Prosecution counsel, Chidi Leo, alleged that Ahmed committed the offence on March 21 at Tudun Wada, Kaduna when she insulted the complainant, Farida Musa, without any provocation, which led to a fight.
He said during the fight, the accused beat up her neighbour to a pulp, contravening section 173 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
After her guilty plea, the Chief Magistrate convicted Ahmed accordingly and ordered her “to sweep and clean up the court for five days under the supervision of the court’s registrar”.
He said the punishment would “serve as a deterrent to others who do not want to live in peace with their neighbours”.
