A member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly representing Ikole Constituency 2, Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, has said the All Progressives Congress(APC) would give Ekiti a competent and highly experienced homegrown governor to succeed Governor Kayode Fayemi in 2022.
Aribasoye said this accounted for the intimidating supports being given to the governorship aspiration of the immediate past Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Biodun Oyebanji , whom he said understands the terrain and has a full grasp of the continuity agenda of Governor Fayemi.
The human rights activist noted that Oyebanji has all the qualities that can sustain the state’s development velocity, owing to his background as a grassroots and homeboy politician.
Aribasoye spoke in Ikole Ekiti on Tuesday when Oyebanji’s campaign train under the acronym BAO(Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji) campaign organisation visited the council to consult with the APC leaders.
At the well attended event, Aribasoye and his counterpart representing Ikole Constituency 1, Hon Gboyega Aribisogan, endorsed Oyebanji for the primary billed for January 22, 2022, to pick the governorship candidate of the APC.
Addressing the mammoth crowd of party supporters, Aribasoye described Oyebanji as a humble, brilliant and competent person with cognate experiences in the public service to succeed Governor Fayemi.
Aribasoye expressed confidence that Oyebanji won’t betray the confidence reposed in him if given the mandate to serve the people, branding him as one politician with full knowledge about the dynamics of Ekiti’s economy, its people and politics.
The lawmaker urged the APC members not to sacrifice competence and experience for mediocrity, adding that Oyebanji having been a progressive since 1999 had got the deserved advantage over other aspirants .
“Having Biodun Oyebanji becoming the governor of our dear state will change the narratives of our political trajectory.
“In fact, he will be the first homegrown politician to govern Ekiti. He was born here, he schooled here from primary to university level and he had served for 11 years in Ekiti as a public servant. He understands the terrain perfectly. This is a huge advantage to him.
“For the past one decade, there had been deafening calls for a homeboy as a governor. APC hearkening to these calls will join forces with other progressives in APC’s fold to promote Oyebanji who is regarded as a thoroughly grilled local politician, who will understand our language and how to respond to it.
“Oyebanji is no doubt passionate about Ekiti. He was the Secretary of the Committee for the creation of Ekiti in 1996 at barely 27 years. He was not looking for any position then. He did that with natural zeal and attachment he had for Ekiti.
“With him in the saddle of governance, he won’t gamble with your future. He knows where exactly to strike. He knew Ekiti founding fathers’ development agenda for this state being one of the drafters and he knows how to implement for the benefit of all of us.
“I plead with our party members to support him to get the ticket, so that he can consolidate the democracy gains for Ekiti people by building on that solid foundation being passionately laid by our governor and leader, Dr Kayode Fayemi.”
